Marimar Torres was born in Barcelona in 1945 and has been linked to wine all her life. She speaks six languages and since 1975 she lives in California, where she runs the Marimar Estate.
Before directing the Torres project in California, Marimar graduated in Higher Commercial Studies from the University of Barcelona and studied marketing at ESADE. She later jumped to Stanford to study there. She then trained in oenology and viticulture at Davis University in California.
Currently Marimar directs the activities in the winery and in the two vineyards of the Marimar Estate: Don Miguel, named in honor of her late father, in the Russian River/Green Valley (Sonoma) and Doña Margarita, in honor of her mother, in the Sonoma Coast designation of origin.
Over time, the Marimar Estate became a symbol of Spanish wine in North America. Her dedication to her family business has not prevented her from developing her passion for Spanish gastronomy, as evidenced by the publication of several books: The Spanish Table: The Cuisines and Wines of Spain and The Catalan Country Kitchen.
