The Albariño variety is known for its ability to produce extraordinary wines in northwestern Spain. Marimar Estate first planted it in its Sonoma Coast vineyard, whose climate proved too cold for even a cold-weather variety like this to mature. After four years they grafted the shoots of those vines onto their Don Miguel vineyard in the slightly warmer Russian River Valley.
Nose: Intense aromas of lime, apricot and stone fruit. Floral notes, star jasmine and a minerality reminiscent of wet stones.
Mouth: Cheerful, with nerve and round. Vibrant acidity. Elegant and refreshing finish.
Name: Don Miguel Vineyard.
Description: Vineyard located in the Russian River Valley, just 15 kilometers from the Pacific Ocean. The Albariño vines are cord-trained, alternating buds to create two fruit zones and thus provide optimal aeration and light quality.
Weather: Green Valley, within the Russian Valley region, is one of the coldest and foggiest parts of that area.
Harvest: The grapes were picked from September 1 to 5.
Vinification: After minimal pressing, the must fermented in stainless steel. After fermentation, the wine undergoes 100% malolactic fermentation.
