Valquejigoso means 'Valley of Quejigos'. The Quejigo is a tree of the Quercus genus like the holm oak, the oak or the cork oak. Due to its concentration in this pasture area, the area has historically received the name of 'Dehesa de Valquejigoso'.
The Dehesa de Valquejigoso is located about 45 km from Madrid, in the southwest of the Community of Madrid, in the municipality of Villamanta. It borders in all its southernmost part with the Community of Castilla la Mancha, specifically with the province of Toledo and within it with the municipality of Méntrida. Finca Valquejigoso was acquired by the Colomo family in 1986 from the Count of Caralt. Starting in 1992, the year in which the wine project was forged, the estate went from being an important hunting ground for the European aristocracy, to a full-fledged wine project. The planting of the first vines takes place in 1994 using the grafting method.
Contributing to the project are renowned French nurserymen such as Renoux - essentially based in Bordeaux - and teams specially brought from the neighboring country to contribute their experience in 'fork' planting, an ancient method that requires heavy manual labor. The vineyard The vineyard is located at the entrance to the estate, in the easternmost part of it. The plantations that began in 1997 have been complemented vintage after vintage and to this day they have not finished.
The ultimate goal is to complete a vineyard area for red varietals of about 55 hectares with 10 different varieties (currently there are 47 hectares planted with 9 varietals: Cabernet Sauvignon, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Syrah, Tempranillo, Garnacha, Graciano and Negral ) and 1.8 hectares physically separated from the main vineyard, with 4 white varietals (Sauvignon blanc, Viognier, Albillo real and Moscatel de Grano Menudo).
