It is a fresh wine. On the nose it is lively and intense, with aromas of tropical fruit (lychee, pineapple), fruit trees (pear and apricot) and white flowers (gardenia). On the palate it is fluid and refreshing, tasty and vibrant. Good balance. Salty touches. Lingering finish.
Mar de Frades is a single-variety white wine from Albariño made in the DO Rías Baixas by the winery of the same name, Mar de Frades. The grapes used to make this albariño come from Finca Valiñas, a vineyard planted on terraces and located south of Mount Valiñas, in the Valle del Salnés. The influence of the nearby Ría de Arousa is noticeable, and of its sea breezes that give this Mar de Frades a saline character. They are vines over 20 years old, planted to prevent soil moisture.
A poor and shallow soil, formed by granite decaying sands that transmit to the wine a certain minerality. The harvest is done manually and the grapes go through a strict selection process at the table, where up to 20-25% of the harvest can be discarded.
The grapes are macerated for between 10 and 20 hours and after a light pressing, a clean and very aromatic must is obtained. Fermentation is carried out slowly at a controlled temperature. Mar de Frades is a delicate and subtle albariño, with very special marine and mineral touches.
As a curiosity, a label that helps you take Mar de Frades to its correct serving temperature. Printed in heat-sensitive ink, a blue boat appears on the waves of the logo when the wine is below 11ºC, its recommended consumption temperature.
